“Yes, my name is Fred, just Fred. It is a family name. I was named after my grandmother.” Naming a woman Fred was a definite set up for an unusual life. Raised in a traditional family tribe of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Lexington, Kentucky, Fred chose the elusive path of a performance artist, exploring everything theatrical, from clowning to Shakespeare. But chasing the accolades of the stage was an empty pursuit, and one day she realized what was missing. She had always known Jesus as her Savior, a very near help in trouble, but that wasn't enough. It wasn't enough to seek Him when things were tough, and go about her life ignoring Him when things seemed OK. Then, in a suddenly moment, she realized what it meant to be a citizen of Heaven and to give allegiance to the King of all kings. From that time on her life changed drastically, and began to chart a course that included a husband and eventually, nine children. Now in the grandmother stage of life, Fred resides in The Dalles, Oregon, and continues to use her artistic talents to serve the Kingdom here on earth, as teacher and worship leader.
